I'll Never Let You Go Morgans of Nashville Mary Burton Books

Four years ago Leah Carson was stalked and almost killed by her cop husband. He escaped and was supposedly killed in a car crash shortly after. The body was burned beyond recognition and identification was made from a ring and a wallet found at the scene. Now she has moved back to Nashville after finishing vet school. Unexplained things start happening to Leah, missing keys, flat tire, anonymous flowers, credit issues and movers show up supposedly on her orders to pack up all her belongings. Leah doesn't know where to turn, she thinks maybe her ex isn't dead. While this is happening Deidre Jones, a cop in Nashville, has made a point of friending Leah with her own agenda. Deidre is under investigation and a TBI agent Alex Morgan has found a way to insert himself into Leah's life to see if he can get info on Deidre. He knows that Leah has a secret, he sees her scars and recognizes them as defensive scars. He is also attracted to her. When Deidre turns up murdered, stabbed the same number of times as Leah, Alex thinks the cases are connected but can't figure out how. Is Leah's husband alive and responsible for the murder or is there someone else in the picture. Can Alex figure it out in time? Plenty of suspense with an ending I didn't quite figure out. Another great read by Mary Burton.

I'll Never Let You Go Morgans of Nashville Mary Burton Books Reviews

It’s been 4 long years since Leah Carson’s husband tried to kill her. Four years of surgeries, rehabilitation and trying to learn to live without fear. Today, Leah is a practicing veterinarian finding pleasure and closeness with the animals she treats, yet these last couple of months have her on edge. Missing keys, flat tires, mysterious flowers - annoying but they held more terrifying memories of how her dead husband used to taunt her.

Deidre, Leah’s one close friend has been murdered and a detective agent, Alex Morgan from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is hot on the case. The fact that Deidre had been stabbed twenty-three times, the same as what had happened to Leah was just too coincidental leading to wonder whether or not Leah’s husband was really dead.

As usual Mary Burton who is a master of suspense and terror keeps that tradition going with I’LL NEVER LET YOU GO. Blending her masterful suspense with the Morgan’s of Nashville series also added in a lovely romantic bent as well. Because of previous books on the Morgans, one is able to understand what has shaped Alex into the brilliant detective he is. Just as Alex was fleshed out, Ms. Burton did a remarkable job of fleshing out Leah as well, making one understand her fears and a little bit of her OCD.

However, what Ms. Burton does best is change the rules and totally twist around everything one thinks is going on! I’LL NEVER LET YOU GO is one highly recommended read! Most importantly, be prepared to be surprised at the end.

I agree with other 1- and 2-star reviewers that the book was poorly written. I might have found more wrong with the story itself, but I was too distracted by silly and unrealistic contraction use, poorly identified dialog that had me thinking one person said "xx", when it turned out that somehow the other person in the conversation apparently said it. And scenes with faulty follow through one person was put in handcuffs, then several paragraphs later "folded her arms", then a few paragraphs later was *still* (not *back*) in handcuffs. Quite a contortionist, that character. And sloppy writing changing tense in the middle of sentences, using the wrong word - similar spelling but very different meaning - such as regime for regimen, born for borne, waivered for wavered, poured for pored, perked for pricked (as in ears...). And poor use of descriptive words and phrases; not "wrong" but not fitting the atmosphere of the scene, as though the author was just trying to vary her word usage without regard for tone and nuance. Very clunky and distracting. I read the first three Morgans books, this being the third. The first book was okay, with a few mistakes - since epublishing took off, I've developed a certain tolerance. The second book was worse, but I forged on and read this book, which was so riddled with poor writing that I couldn't keep my focus on the story. I won't be buying the 4th book in the series, that's for sure, and I doubt I'll try any other books by this author.
