I selected this book after reading the hanged man. Once I began this book I could not put it down. I have fallen in love with Gabriel and Joel. Their story mixed with the mystery of who killed Leonard Matthews mingled with finding Geneva's birth record was thrilling and exciting. The author has also done an excellent job of integrating the subject of human trafficking in this story.. I cannot wait for the next book in this series. Job well done just needs a little better editing. ..Product details

The Hanged Man is the first story in the series and is exceptionally good. This book carries on but gets bogged down in "over telling" the story. I get it. He's traumatized. They're traumatized. Everyone is traumatized, but you can move it forward and when people get THIS dysfunctional and let all their troubled thoughts loose on the reading public..... it's just too much. There are good spots and places where the story moves forwards but there's just too much dysfunction (of a lot of people) to make it flow as well as the first one. When MY friends get this crazy.... I call the cops. It's called a 72-hour hold and it's no fun, but it's to keep people from hurting themselves and others. This story tries to make it into a romantic thing. It's not. But hopefully the next book will have people functioning better. Hopefully. Also the editing is bad and there are poorly structured parts with wrong words and grammar issues. Still, I found some redeeming parts and insights that were worthwhile.
could not get into this book at all. Not my kind of novel.I would not recommend this book to any of my friends.
Really enjoy the characters and plot lines, but feel that the author is a little caught up in Taoism and mysticism and it slows down the story development. Looking forward to reading The Book of Joel but hope there will be more story and fewer philosophical lessons.....
BTW don't you find it odd that Gabriel has never once questioned Joel about his sudden access to sooooo much money?
