Mr Willowby Christmas Tree Robert Barry Books Reviews

Such a fun Christmas story - what seems like a minor decision ends up impacting so many people and creatures, bringing Christmas cheer to all. We don't celebrate any religious aspects of the holiday, but that tends to leave mostly stories of Santa. Not a problem, but it's nice to find something a little different to add to our collection.
This is a wonderfully sweet Christmas story about a very large Christmas tree that is cut and shared with a whole community. The underlying theme is essentially one man's trash is another's treasure, and could easily start conversations about generosity, charity, and gratefulness. It's written in rhyme and is thus delightful to read and to hear. We read as a family during the Christmas season and our five year old and three year old loved it. As we saw real Christmas trees around town, they would ask if they were as big or bigger than Mr. Willowby's tree, so I know the story stuck with them. One of our new family Christmas classics.
Our family loves this story. It is so sweet and fun, it starts with Mr. Willowby and his tree which is too tall and he cuts the top of, then continues to go to many different homes and families who in turn cut the top of and someone new gets it. Love its message and it’s still fun and a repeate story through out the Christmas season in our houses
Great book!! With all the commercialism surrounding Christmas, this book is heart warming. After reading it a couple times, my son (3 years old) suggested we chop the top off of our tree to give to the chipmunks who frequent our patio. ) Definitely one of our favorite Christmas books now.
Our kids loved this book as young children. Now they are reading it to their children. This has become a Christmas classic in our family. Kids ears (and adults, too) love the rhyme and rhythm. Little did we know back then, that this book, beside being a charming story, also contains a lesson on the importance of recycling.. The illustrations are charming and full of detail. Make this one book that you recycle out every year during the holidays.
This is the quintessential Christmas book for children. The story is told in a bouncy poetry format, and the illustrations are whimsical and just plain fun. The story is about a Christmas tree that is "shared" quite unexpectedly by a succession of animals. The concept is clever and charming,as each of the animal families finds its "tree" just a little to big for its purposes, and this leads to the cyclical nature of the tale, which, consequently, ends where it begins. Our children loved this book, our grandkids love this book, and I love reading it to them. We recently purchased copies of the book for the parents of two newborns, and now they, too, adore it. It's just a fun read with a message about sharing that is never "preachy." It will always be a Christmas favorite in our family.
I am in the process of buying all of my favorite books that I remember from my childhood. This is a standout story that has become more relevant with the passing of time. When Mr. Willowby buys his Christmas tree, it's just a little too tall for his ceiling, so his butler lops off a foot or so off the top to make it fit in the parlor. When that treetop gets tossed out, instead of becoming trash, the neighborhood of animals discovers a way to recycle it so that that one tree blesses many little "fur families."

If you have a child or grandchild to whom you would like to read a lovely book with a delightful message and charming illustrations, this may become a lifetime favorite for him or her. It certainly has been for me.
