Title: Peter and the Secret of Rundoon by Ridley Pearson and Dave Barry

Pages: 482.

Time spent on the "to read" shelf: 2 1/2 years.

Days spent reading it: 4 days.

Why I read it: I already read (and liked) the other two books in this series, so I wanted to read this one (obviously)!

Brief review: Since this is the third book in a series, I do not want to give too much away in regards to the series. But I do want to give a little review. Peter and the Secret of Rundoon continues the popular Peter and the Starcatchers series that re-envisions the Peter Pan story.

I went into this book a little nervous about the quality. Susan and some others I know read this book and were not as impressed as they were with the first two books in the series. So I thought I would not like it as much either. However that was not the case. I actually liked it quite a bit. Right there with the second book, not quite as good as the first book.

Barry and Ridley continue to create a magical world that is fun to explore. I liked the change of scenery that this book offered (a desert instead of an island or city). This book also explains more about the origins of the Starcatchers and the Others. It even explains a little more about what the mysterious and powerful starstuff is.

In my opinion this book was definitely worth reading if you enjoyed the first two. If you didn't enjoy them, you won't enjoy this one. The only real criticism I have about this book is that, as far as plot and storytelling go, there is nothing really new here. Sure there are some new elements (new bad guy, bigger picture). But clearly Barry and Ridley have a formula going. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. And I'm fine with that. This series is fun and lighthearted and is a good read for relaxing.

Favorite quote:
"You trust [Hook]?" said Peter.
"I trust him to do what's in his interest," said Leonard. "Right now it's in his interest to take us where we want to go so that we don't toss him over the side, which I have assured him we will happily do at the first sign of treachery."
Peter smiled and was rewarded with a personalized glare from Hook.

Stars: 4 out of 5.

Peter and the Secret of Rundoon Peter and the Starcatchers Dave Barry Ridley Pearson Greg Call 9780786837885 Books Reviews

I thought Peter And The Starcatchers was a little slow starting but ended with my kids (and me) being very anxious to read the next book. Wow! Each one was better and better. Of course for those of us who know the original Peter Pan story it is wonderful to recognize names and places and anticipate character development. But even for those who have never heard of Pan and Hook and Smee and the wonderful Neverland or The Lost Boys, this book is a a fantasy worthy of the original. Dare I say it ... BETTER than the original? In this reviewer's mind, yes.
After reading the third in the series, I consider these excellent books for all ages. The writing is good and the characters well developed. The story is riveting and entertaining. The book also offers a variety of scenes, conflicts and suspenseful episodes, as it moves from England, the open sea, Rundoon and Mollusk Island.

I would like to have had some more background on the evil character of Lord Ombra and his ilk. They seem to wield enormous evil power without explanation of how or why. Maybe this will be explained in future books. I hope so.

Readers will not be disappointed with this one.
I'm Jay 9 years and in the 4th grade. I liked the book because it had many adventures in one book. I recommend this book because it is fun and easy to read! My favorite part was when Peter attacked the Indians trying to take over the island. I didn't like when the lost boys went away. When I finish the series I will gladly read it again.
Once again, Dave Barry pulls through for us with another great book!

This is the third in the series about Peter Pan and his colleagues, Starcatcher Leonard Aster and his daughter Molly, her friend George, the Lost Boys, Capt. Hook and Mr. Smee, Fighting Prawn, the native chief of Peter's home island, and of course Tinker Bell. In this third instalment, the Starcatchers are up against the Others, including creepy alien (?) Ombra and malevolent King Zarboff the Third of Rundoon, who feeds transgressors to his rather large pet snake. This book is packed with adventure from start to finish. Great series for middle schoolers or older independent readers. Lots of fun, thrills and adventure with no gore. Highly recommended.
This series just keeps getting better and better! This book explains why Peter's last name is Pan and why he has special powers previously unexplained. Lots of travelling from London to Rundoon to Mollusk Island with exciting adventures in each place. More starstuff is greatotten and released with surprising results. And every connection with the original Peter Pan is lining up true. Wonderful read!
This is a lovely continuance of the Peter and the Star Catchers series. It was full of adventure, fun and surprises. I was happy to find Peter and Molly reunited for another adventure.
As with he previous audio books in this series, Jim Dale does a fantastic job recounting this story. I enjoy all the voices and sound effects he adds to his readings. I really love that this audiobook comes with the entire story on 1 disc. It is so convenient. No changing out the disc every so often—just continuous listening.
