1953, and Freya Wryton is determined to discover the truth of murdered Lord Selchester’s youthful passion for the mysterious Marie Louise.
Her family and his colleagues want her late uncle’s secrets to go to the grave with him, but intelligence officer Hugo Hawksworth is as curious as Freya about what happened between Lord Selchester and Marie Louise in that golden Oxford summer before the first world war.
The stakes are high, since Marie Louise’s life and death hold the key to the great Selchester inheritance fortune, castle and title.

A Youthful Indiscretion A Novella Single edition by Elizabeth Edmondson Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
I don't care for the title of this book, it gives the impression of a cheap, racy romance novel, which is not at all the case. This is a super short novella that spans be space between A Man of Some Repute and A Question of Inheritance, two historical mysteries. I enjoyed A Man of Some Repute very much, and am looking forward to reading "A Question of Inheritance, which is why I read this little book. But I felt that the quality of the writing was nothing like A Man of Some Repute. The story and the writing style felt hurried and rushed, and there were typographical, grammatical, and punctuation errors.
This book ended in the middle. I had read the reviews which said this book left much unanswered, but this was absurd. Maybe my rating is too high. It truly made me angry, as I felt cheated. I have really enjoyed the other two books in this series, though they, too, leave plenty of loose ends to be dealt with in future books. I like her characters, the settings, the humor, the sentence structure, which makes it all the more maddening that this novella just ends in the middle. Unfair.
Chronologically, this book fits between “A Man of Some Repute” and “A Matter of Inheritance”. All are engaging mysteries set in England in the 1950s and give a snapshot of what life must been like in the era. Definitely read these in order because each offers clues about people introduced in the next book. This one involves a search into a family history (maybe scandalous for the time) and other mysterious goings on.
I was a little surprised that this novella came after the first and second books in the Selchester series, because it explains what appeared to be a huge gap between those first two books. That said, I wish it could be expanded to a full-scale novel; this is just one of THE most fascinating series I have ever read, and it would have been nice to have a bit more development and tension going on (for one thing, that Sonia person could *really* be even bitchier in this book than she already is, and that's saying something). Because it's so short, it's hard to say much more about it without giving the whole thing away; on the basis of its length, I was tempted to give it only four stars, but I just can't bring myself to do that. It's just too well written for me to "trash" it to that extent.
This novella is a bridge between A Man of some Repute and A Question of Inheritance, but there are some holes and cliff hangers that are never explained, not even in the following book. Do we have to wait till book no 3, 4, or 5 to find out what's going on?
What a disappointment to read this after reading 'A Man of Some Repute'. It isn't a novella, it is an unfinished manuscript, and a poorly edited one. I was so looking forward to reading this, and I suppose it could be considered a 'bridge' between the two novels, but it actually hasn't added anything to the main story that I hadn't already thought of. I am sorry if this is a bit harsh but I do think the author could have done herself a favour and left this one out. All the main characters appear, with Freya being foremost, but a few new characters are introduced and I will be interested to see if any of them appear in the second book.
This piece follows the excellent "A Man of Some Repute" and is either a portion of the sequel or intended to bridge the gap between the first book and a sequel not yet published. I'm sorry to disagree with the description, but it's not a novella. A novella is a STORY of a specified length, and while it's the right length, it lacks a bit of being a story. The familiar characters of "A Man of Some Repute" are back unchanged--but they continue unchanged. There is a question, an investigation and an answer, but no complications, no conflict--and, effectively, no puzzle. I'm glad to have read Ms. Edmondson's previous novel. I'll be glad to read her next. And if this turns out to be part of the sequel, it will serve well enough--though I wouldn't have started it without the whole book. (When I want a story with no ending, I'll read George R. R. Martin.) But judged by itself, the story does her no credit. Read "A Man of Some Repute" but don't start this one until the sequel is available.
