I am a big fan of The Dragon Lord Series by Michelle Pillow. This is the seventh book in the series that focuses on the princes cousins, the High Duke and his brothers. This story is about Vlad, who was adopted by the Duke and his wife and while he is as much a part of the family as the other brothers. His modest background though, makes him more loving of adventure and the outdoors than attending formal functions.Finally of age to attend his first Breeding Festival, Vlad's brothers find themselves jealous when his crystal glows for the daughter of an important nobleman, Lady Clara of the Redding, before he even has to go to the ceremony. The brothers' initial envy quickly disappears when they meet Clara, a woman who is nothing like they've ever encountered. With skin painted white, a huge white wig, clothing like they've never seen before and behavior that is strangely unemotional and removed the brothers don't know quite what to make of her.
As with all the other books in the series I loved the adventure, excitement,intrigue and suspense (there is a very real threat to the entire planet that Clara and Vlad must encounter), and scifi/paranormal romance. The world building is imaginative and continues to draw you in to the people and planet of Quirllixen.
I loved Hunky, adorable slightly wild Vlad, the books hero. Adopted after his parents were killed in a mining accident, he is considered "reluctant" as he is more comfortable running through the forest in his Draig form than taking on his role as a nobleman. At his core he is a passionate, wild and emotional man, how then has his Crystal glowed for this strange, refined, and reserved woman who has rarely ever been touched.
Clara's world is reminiscent of 18th century Europe complete with white powdered wigs, huge formal gowns, skin covered in white makeup and an extreme lack of physical touching even among parents and their children. In addition there are many strange rules about everything including the order in which the twenty some odd siblings marry and who may have children first. Apparently Clara must have a child before her sisters are allowed to. They live in a repressed, cold society filled with countless extreme and weird rules.
I enjoyed the story of how Clara and Vlad both change and open to the world around them and each other. Of all the brides in this series I found Clara and the Reddy civilization annoying and absurd. Being thrown into the 18th century seemed a bit odd and out of place, even with this being science fiction novel. That being said, Clara turns out to be a most wonderful, passionate and talented heroine and goes through the most changes than any of the other women in the series. She truly does win your heart at the end as well as Vlad's. Clara's mental abilities to communicate with animals,heal others, destroy invading enemy creatures, her bravery, strength and underlying passion win you over.
The story keeps you engrossed from first page to the last. This is a great addition to the series. It is highly recommended the books be read in order. They are all amazing and it is best way to get the most out of the sexy Draig men andtheir chosen mates, and their stories that are interwoven throughout the series.

I loved this addition to the Dragon Lords series. I honestly cannot get enough of these dragon men! I think Clara is one of my favorite heroines that I have read lately.
Clara's planet has a tradition that the next generation cannot be born until everyone, and they mean everyone, in the current generation is married. Clara has many pregnant sisters who are in stasis and will remain there until she is married. Her father is furious that she has not yet chosen a husband, he insists that she go to planet Qurilixen and choose one of the royals to marry. She doesn't understand that the crystal the men wear glows when the men meet their perfect match. Finally, Vlad's crystal glows when she meets him and Vlad is so happy to find a wife. Clara was raised to be a perfect lady, no laughing, no touching, the list goes on and on, she never even smiles. Vlad knows that the gods will give him a wife who will love the outdoors as much as he does. At first, these two couldn't be more different.
Vlad is a great hero, he is sweet and kind and does not judge Clara for her coldness. I liked that he absolutely trusted the will of the gods in giving him his perfect wife. He never questioned that Clara is right for him.
The sex scenes were pretty hot in this book!
Overall, I loved it, I have loved every one of these books. Keep them coming! I cannot get enough of them.
This book is amazing. The hero is a commoner made noble who marries a noble from another cultural race- compatible to procreate, but he is a dragon shifter and she is an empath sent to only get pregnant before her king father takes her home to keep the baby! She has always been taught to dampen her emotions and his culture freely shares their feelings and touch often in relationships-add in that her empathy communicates with beasts and inherently battles the bad aliens out to steal her Dragon husbands planet resources - makes for a great read I thought ended too soon just because I fell in love with the characters! This book is by far my favorite in the series !! Since each book can be made a stand alone, if you question buying the series and starting with book one, don't miss out- get this book- you will not be disappointed
Lady Clara of Redding does not want an arranged marriage and has refused every suitor presented to her; her choice has become a noble from Quilixen or banishment. Vlad, Ealdorman Honorary of Draig is to attend his first Breeding Festival and just knows he will find his mate. Due to her station and customs she refuses to participate in the normal ceremony and instead is presented to only the princes and noblemen before the ceremony. As each one greets and dismisses her she becomes more and more concerned that she will not be chosen and will not be able to return home, under penalty of death. As the final noble approaches his crystal glows and Vlad choses her. Unfortunately it is not a smooth start, her upbringing has been very different from the Draig and she comes off as an elitist snob, constantly offending Vlad, his friends, and family. But regardless of the culture clash the Gods must know what they are doing because Clara has a unique set of gifts that not only help the Draig with the ceffyl but save the mines and planet from an alien invasion! In the process Clara finds herself and she and Vlad become the pair they were always meant to be. This is one of my favorite series! Each one has lovable characters and an intertwined story that really makes you feel like you are in that world and this is a great addition to that world. Highly recommend it!!
